Pocketpair’s breakout survival game with monster-catching at its core. 2024 release; 1.0 launching 2026.

Welcome to the Cosmo strategy hub for Palworld. Pocketpair’s January 2024 release combined Pokemon-style creature collection with survival-game depth and broke records on Steam and Xbox Game Pass within its first week. Currently Version 0.7.x (the Home Sweet Home update, December 2025) with the 1.0 full release planned for 2026. The Palpagos Islands offer a sandbox where players capture, train, and command "Pals" — creatures that fight, gather, craft, and farm — across survival, base-building, exploration, and combat. Everything below is vanilla, mechanics-only knowledge — the combat loop, Pals by role, base building and automation, survival fundamentals, the element system, notable Pals, combat and weapons, endgame raids and oil rigs, PvP and multiplayer, audio and settings, and pro tips.

01 · The Combat Loop

Survival + creature-collection. Two genres in one.

  • Open-world survival Spawn into the Palpagos Islands; survive hunger, temperature, and combat encounters; build a base; expand to multiple bases. The survival foundation underlies everything.
  • Pal capture Throw Pal Spheres at weakened Pals to capture them. Better Spheres improve capture rate; specific Pal levels determine difficulty. The mechanic is mechanically Pokemon-style.
  • 100+ Pals to collect Each Pal has unique stats, Active and Passive Skills, Work Suitability (the jobs they perform at base), and Element. The roster expands across updates; 1.0 is expected to bring more.
  • Build mode + automation Build bases with structures, breeding pens, factories, food sources. Assign Pals to base jobs; they automate resource gathering, crafting, and food production while you explore.
  • Combat is hybrid You fight directly with weapons (rifles, shotguns, melee) alongside your active Pal who uses their abilities. Some encounters favor Pal damage; others favor your direct weapon damage.
  • Boss encounters and raids Alpha Pals, Tower Bosses, Raid Bosses (v0.7+ added new raid system), and Oil Rig invasions. Each tests different team compositions and gear.
  • Crossplay across platforms Crossplay added in March 2025 (v0.5.0). Steam, Xbox, Game Pass, and PS5 players can join the same dedicated servers; up to 32 players per server.

02 · Pals by Role

Legendary Pals (Anubis, Frostallion, Jetragon, Necromus, Paladius) are post-level-40 captures and dominate combat. Build for them.

Each Work Pal has Work Suitability ratings (1-5) across multiple jobs. Mining, lumbering, transporting, cooling, kindling, electricity. Match Pals to base needs.

Breeding lets you produce Pals with desired Passive Skills (Lucky, Ferocious, Lord of the Sea, etc.). The grind that defines endgame builds.

03 · Base Building & Automation

Three bases at maximum; assign Pals to jobs.

  • Three base slots Players unlock up to 3 active bases across the map. Each base has its own Pals, structures, and resource focus. Specialization across bases is the standard strategy.
  • Pal Work Suitability Each Pal has work skill ratings (1-5) for: Kindling, Watering, Planting, Generating Electricity, Handiwork, Gathering, Lumbering, Mining, Medicine, Cooling, Transporting, Farming.
  • Mass production via automation Workbenches automated by assigned Pals. Production lines for ammo, ingots, medicine, food. The game’s automation depth rivals dedicated automation games.
  • Defensive walls and turrets Build walls, gates, and turrets for base defense. Defenses matter in PvP servers and during enemy raids.
  • Power generation Electricity unlocks late-game tech (refrigeration, missile launchers, electric furnaces). Generated by electric-type Pals or fuel-powered generators.
  • Pal Workload management Pals get tired and stressed. Hot springs, beds, and Pal-food management prevent breakdowns. Burned-out Pals stop working until rested.
  • Home Sweet Home update (v0.7) December 2025 update overhauled base building with more intuitive placement, raid boss battlefield options, and structure improvements.

04 · Survival Fundamentals

Hunger, temperature, sanity, and weight all matter.

  • Hunger and food Eat food regularly to maintain hunger. Cooked food restores more; raw food restores less and risks food poisoning. Pals cook food at base if assigned.
  • Temperature management Cold zones drain Sanity and damage HP; hot zones overheat your character. Wear appropriate armor; carry items like Heat-Resistant Pelts.
  • Sanity (San) Meter Sanity decreases in extreme weather, combat, and from working Pals overworking. Low Sanity weakens combat performance. Manage with food, rest, and base comforts.
  • Carrying weight Inventory weight limited by Stamina-based Carry Weight stat. Level up Carry Weight; use Pal mounts to carry extra; storage at base.
  • Death penalty Die and drop your inventory; respawn at last bed. Travel back to recover your items. PvP servers may have different rules.
  • Tech Points and Ancient Technology Points Earn TP and ATP through leveling and Tower Boss completion. Spend on Tech tree unlocks: weapons, structures, Pal Sphere tiers, and more.
  • Hunting Syndicate, PIDF, Free Pal Alliance In-world factions. PIDF (police) respond to crimes against humans; Hunting Syndicate is hostile. Avoid attention; ignore confrontations until ready.

06 · Notable Pals

A handful of the most-valuable Pals at varying tiers.

  • Early-game starters Lamball, Cattiva, Pengullet (basic captures). Foxparks (fire kindling). Pengullet (water transport). Use as starting team and base workers.
  • Mid-game powerhouses Direhowl (mount), Vanwyrm (flying mount), Penking (water + dual-skill ace), Reindrix (cooling + transport), Anubis (mining + combat) once captured.
  • Late-game legendaries Anubis (post-level-40 alpha hunt), Jetragon (level 50 capture), Frostallion (level 50, ice plains), Necromus (paired with Paladius), Lyleen (level 40+ alpha).
  • Best work Pals by job Mining: Anubis, Astegon. Lumbering: Wumpo, Sweepa, Reindrix. Cooling: Frostallion, Reindrix. Generating Electricity: Orserk, Jolthog. Medicine: Lyleen.
  • Best mounts Jetragon (flying speed), Frostallion (flying ice), Suzaku (flying fire), Vanwyrm (early flying), Direhowl (early ground sprint).
  • Breeding-stat champions Jetragon, Frostallion, Anubis are top breeding parents for high-stat children. Passive Skill stacking is the deep grind: Lucky + Ferocious + Lord of the Sea, etc.
  • Faleris Saint Variants Special skin variants of existing Pals introduced through events. Mechanically similar to base versions; cosmetic depth.

07 · Combat & Weapons

Your weapon + your Pal’s abilities together.

  • Weapon tiers Stone clubs at level 1; assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles at level 30-40+; rocket launchers and missile launchers at level 50+.
  • Ranged weapons Old Bow → Crossbow → Handgun → Assault Rifle → Sniper Rifle → Rocket Launcher. Progression mirrors Tech tree.
  • Melee weapons Wooden Club → Metal Club → Stone Spear → Metal Spear. Updated in 0.7 with new katana combos and special attacks.
  • Bullets and ammunition Ammunition crafted at workbenches. Stockpile for boss fights and raid encounters. Different weapons use different ammo types.
  • Pal abilities in combat Each Pal has 3 Active Skills they use in combat. Manually trigger them with hotkeys; the Pal swaps targets based on your position.
  • Mounting Pals during combat Mounted Pals fight while you ride them. Combine your weapon damage with their abilities; mobility advantage.
  • Boss encounter strategy Level-appropriate Pal element matching, kit your Pals with food buffs, bring high-tier ammo. Most bosses fall to coordinated 4-5 Pal rotations.

08 · Endgame Content

Raid bosses, oil rigs, Towers, Sakurajima island.

  • Tower Bosses Five major Tower Bosses across the islands. Each requires a specific element team and weapon kit. Defeating them grants Ancient Tech Points and progression.
  • Alpha Pals Stronger versions of regular Pals. Capture for high-stat parents and unique combat power. Found at fixed map locations.
  • Oil Rig raids Large-scale enemy compounds with high-tier loot. Bring full kit and team; hostile NPCs include heavy weapons and base defenders.
  • Sakurajima island Added in v0.3.1. Japanese-inspired region with new Pals, weapons (katanas), and structures.
  • Raid bosses (v0.7+) New raid boss system in Home Sweet Home update. Players choose between base-defense raids or separate battlefield encounters.
  • Ancient Technology trees Late-game tech progression unlocked through Tower Boss kills. Advanced weapons, structures, and Pal modifications.
  • Endless grinding Stat farming, passive skill inheritance, IV optimization. The deep grind for min-maxed builds rivals dedicated MMOs.

09 · PvP & Multiplayer

Co-op standard; experimental PvP in 0.7.

  • Co-op multiplayer (up to 4) Host invites 3 friends to a private game. World disappears when host disconnects; performance tied to host’s machine. Default casual experience.
  • Dedicated servers (up to 32) Run a dedicated server (8 GB RAM minimum for small groups; 16-24 GB for full server). 24/7 uptime; full configuration control.
  • PvP combat (experimental, 0.7) Player-vs-player combat added in v0.7. Still experimental; balance changes ongoing. Bases can be raided in PvP servers.
  • Raid mechanic in PvP Other players attack your base; defend with turrets, walls, and Pals. The defensive system rewards thoughtful base layouts.
  • Cross-platform play Steam + Xbox + PS5 cross-platform supported since v0.5.0. CrossplayPlatforms server setting controls which platforms can join.
  • Guild and Faction systems (planned) Larger-scale community systems mentioned in roadmaps. Specific structure may evolve in 1.0.
  • Mod support Steam Workshop mods available. Cosmetic, quality-of-life, and gameplay mods all common. PvP servers may restrict mod usage.

10 · Audio & Settings

Adjust for performance and clarity.

  • Headphones for combat audio Distant Pal sounds, base alarms, and approaching enemies all rely on stereo audio. Quality headphones improve survival reaction time.
  • Master volume around 50–60 percent Palworld peaks loud during boss fights and raids. Lower master volume preserves headroom for ambient cues.
  • Field of view 90–100 Wider FOV reveals more peripheral movement. 90 is the default; 100 helps in dense forest environments.
  • Performance tuning Palworld is GPU-intensive at high settings. Reduce shadows and foliage for higher framerate in combat-heavy bases.
  • Mouse sensitivity tuning Mid-range sensitivity for hybrid shooter/melee combat. Higher than turn-based games but lower than pure FPS titles.
  • Crossplay opt-in/out Server admins can enable/disable specific platforms via CrossplayPlatforms setting. Match your community’s preferences.
  • Verify after every patch Pocketpair ships updates regularly. Five minutes of menu review after each patch prevents one bad session on changed defaults.

11 · Pro Tips

Compound habits across the long survival arc.

  • Start in safer zones Early-game players should stay in starting regions. Sakurajima, Mount Obsidian, and northern volcanic areas demand mid-game gear.
  • Focus on Mining and Lumbering Pals first A base with strong mining and lumbering Pals generates ore and wood passively. The foundation for late-game tech.
  • Capture Alpha Pals for breeding Alphas have higher base stats. Capture and breed them; the children inherit high stats. The shortcut to a strong roster.
  • Don’t spread Pals across all bases Specialize bases. Base 1: mining + smelting. Base 2: lumbering + crafting. Base 3: farming + cooking. Avoid generalist bases.
  • Watch your Sanity Low Sanity weakens combat. Manage with hot springs, beds, and food. Don’t fight bosses on low Sanity.
  • Stockpile Pal Spheres Higher-tier Spheres (Hyper, Ultra, Legendary) have better capture rates. Stock 50+ before hunting Alphas or legendaries.
  • Take advantage of 1.0 launch The 1.0 launch in 2026 will bring major content. Save unspent Tech Points for new structures and consider starting fresh per dev recommendation.
